Experimental film series designed as an exploration of process, identity and the urban landscape. Videos are often created as site-specific installations.
Continually changing one's perspective is its own form of reVision. This work is a collection of street photography taken while living in Berlin, Germany. A view on a walk through a neighborhood of apartments for travelers from Syria... and a note on a pole "Leave Traces" - sparked thoughts of the importance of leaving one's own unique traces of culture and identity while building a sense of global community. Busy café scenes - people looking outward from their seats. Working, resting, talking. What energy do people eave in a space without ever meeting each other? Abandoned chairs... a forgotten cup of coffee, newspaper, pencil, hat... vacated spaces. Who sat there before... what conversations took place, what secrets were revealed? Disembarking a train, entering a busy platform at the station, two friends arm in arm with very different backgrounds... the theme "All are Welcome", explored a large immersion of new citizens in the city of Berlin in 2017. This video was created for a site-specific installation at the Kent Museum, Calais Vermont - 2019.

In 2018, Spruce Peak Arts in collaboration with the Helen Day Art Center in Stowe, Vermont, invited Erika Senft Miller to perform in a TEDx-style event series. Senft Miller used photography and video from Kelly Holt, in a performance that addressed the Me Too movement. Senft Miller’s performance specifically honed in on the layered significance of the reclamation of female power in the context of her female ancestor’s history and experience of war.
Barely Touching is a collaboration with artist Susan Calza.
When we agreed to produce this collaborative project entitled “Barely Touching”, we had one basic premise, that this work would reflect our personal reactions to the societal challenges erupting during the year 2020. We envisioned that video would be a main component. And it was obvious that the project would evolve in unexpected ways.
Our videos counterbalance each other. Both address a deep sense of longing and the tension between connection and disconnection in relationship, ie. human, environmental and societal. While Kelly’s work references distance and the ethereal, my own work tends to be close up and visceral. Both pose an open question. “Where are we headed?” Both present unease and challenge and both are threaded through with an underlying reliance on the healing inherent in beauty and the recognition that moving beyond the personal is the only position that can save us and the planet.
Raconteur responds to spacial elements and architectural details, juxtaposed with fleeting images of figures crossing in and out of the frame. The body of work focuses on street photography excursions - mainly in urban locations - both local and European. This video accompanies a photographic series - both follow the trajectory of energy in each given environment. The energy/tension conveyed by the images are intended to suggest something about to happen.
